Online Filing - What is it?

Online filing was introduced by the Government in 2002, as a means of sending Employers' Annual Returns (P14s and P35) electronically, eliminating the need for paper returns.

What are the benefits of online filing?

Sending or receiving information online has a number of advantages:

  • Secure and convenient
  • Quick and easy
  • Saves time and money
  • Encourages a paperless office
  • Reduces administration
  • Reduces mistakes and misinterpretation
  • How do I file online?

You can choose how to do your online filing. The options are:

  • Use payroll software capable of filing your return electronically via the secure HMRC PAYE Online for Employers' Internet Service
  • Use an intermediary, for example, a payroll bureau, who can file online on your behalf
  • What are the online filing deadlines?

This initiative became mandatory for large employers in 2005 and for medium employers in May 2006. Small employers do not have to start filing online until at least 19 May 2010. Employer categorisation is determined by the number of employees in your company:

  • Large employers (250 or more employees in each PAYE scheme) are required to file their end of year Returns online - legislation came into force for their 2004-2005 Returns
  • Medium-sized employers (50-249 employees in each PAYE scheme) are also required to file online - legislation came into force for their 2005-2006 Returns
  • Small employers (fewer than 50 employees in each PAYE scheme) do not have to start filing online until at least 19 May 2010; however, generous tax-free incentive payments are available for those who take up online filing earlier
  • If you want to use your payroll software to fulfil your online filing commitments, you must ensure that it is capable of sending your data electronically and that your data meets HMRC Quality Standard:

Pegasus Online Filing Manager is HMRC Quality Standard accredited for more information please contact your account manager at Interactive

CIS - Changes for the construction Industry - HAPPENING SOON!

'It has been delayed but it hasn't gone away.

If you are in the construction industry chances are you may have breathed a sigh of relief when you heard that HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) has delayed the changes to the Construction Industry Scheme (CIS). April 2007 may seem a long way off, but the clock is still ticking. Implementing a new software system isn't a decision any business undertakes lightly. Ensuring that the solution suits your business, purchasing, installing and getting comfortable with new software will inevitably take time.

For any construction company, it is critical to adhere to the rules of the Construction Industry Scheme; getting it wrong can be costly in terms of deductions and surcharges. This is even more important with the increased scrutiny from HMRC as part of their efforts to recoup the £130m they believe should be collected in extra taxes from the construction industry.'

    Organize Your Programs

If you are like me, you have installed many new and different programs on your computer over the years. Windows lists all of them as "All Programs" under the Start menu, but they unfortunately are not in alphabetical order. This sometimes makes finding a particular program a little time consuming, doesn't it? I not only want to have each file's title in its proper location in the alphabet, but I also want to rename some of them by their category type, in order to make them easier to remember. For instance, there are several Microsoft programs listed under "Microsoft," but they can easily be renamed. For one example, I have renamed "Microsoft Streets and Trips" to "Maps, Microsoft Streets and Trips."

You can do it too! To rename the title, highlight it and right click. This will bring up a function menu. Highlight and left click on Rename. This allows you to make any changes you want to the actual program name. You can even completely delete the existing name and replace it with another if you'd like. After making your changes, just press Enter on your keyboard.

Now, to move the title of your newly installed program, whether or not you have renamed it, look at the menu list to see which title the new one will follow. Next, left click and hold the mouse button down on the new title. As you begin to move the mouse (dragging the title), a black line will appear above the title. Position the black line just below the previously selected title in the menu listing and release the mouse button. Voila! It's an instant relocation!

Arranging the titles in an orderly manner such as this makes it much quicker and easier to find and open any particular program. I hope this tip works just as well for you!
